My Postcards from Penguin collection includes four covers* from 1960s editions of crime novels by Erle Stanley Gardner. "Never heard of him," I thought on flicking through them until I noticed the words "a Penguin Perry Mason" and then light dawned.
Momentarily confusing Perry Mason with Ironside (both were played by Raymond Burr) of course I remembered the long-running legal/crime drama and looked up the author of the books (who was a self-taught lawyer, I see). To say that he was prolific is an understatement, and he is reputedly one of the best-selling authors of all time. A look at recent reviews would seem to indicate he's still popular - I love the 5 star comment on The Case of the One-Eyed Witness (click there and scroll down for it)! Have you read any Erle Stanley Gardner?
Here's a short clip of Mr. Mason himself.
