I've been on BBC Radio Scotland's Book Café again today, this time talking with my fellow guests about books to give you a bit of a boost. The three of us had a very varied and interesting collection of titles at the ready (not all of which there was time to discuss), but although I managed to throw in a snatch of Stella Gibbons' classic Cold Comfort Farm, my main recommendation was Paul Gallico's delightful Flowers for Mrs. Harris (which, happily, is to be reprinted - under its other title - quite soon).
If you can recommend any books guaranteed to lift the spirits, please tell us!
Later: I haven't responded to all the comments below, but there are many great suggestions there and other books which I don't know but have noted.
