A new P.D. James novel is something to look forward to, and her next one will be published on 3rd. November, but this book marks something of a departure for her: Death Comes to Pemberley recreates the world of Pride and Prejudice but sets a murder at its heart! "Brilliant" in idea and execution, "elegant, intelligent and moving" - full details here.
I for one can't wait.

Whether or not there's a body in it, the library at Pemberley must house many beautifully bound books with marbled endpapers and fine gold tooling - a gentleman of means would have had nothing less. The craft of bookbinding is of course alive and well today, but have a look at the site of Master Bookbinder David Lalubin to see bespoke pieces (click the silver 'edge of the page' there to continue) which are works of art in themselves. Mr. Darcy would have had nothing like them!
