Oh, Pooh!

    Here's something specially for Simon, A.A. Milne fan that he is:
In the current edition of the National Library of Scotland magazine, the "Curator's Choice" article features Andrew Martin, Curator of Modern Scottish Collections and his choice from the catalogue, Winnie-the-Pooh in Scots by James Robertson, a Scots translation of the classic!
     Follow that link in the title and scroll down to 'product description' to read the opening of the book - it's braw!
    Pooh is still Pooh, but Piglet is "Wee Grumphie", Owl is "Hoolet", Eyeore is "Heehaw" and Kanga has "the Bairn Roo". While Milne wrote that Piglet was "small and weak", "Wee Grumphie" is - delightfully - "shilpit and dwaiblie", and when the English version has Pooh rolling in "a very muddy place", the Scots one puts him in "a gey glaury dub".
