Hands up if you've ever dreamed of having your own bookshop - go on, admit it! I certainly have, and still do, and I'm probably mad, but we knew that.
Having a site like this is great, of course, because I get to talk about books and spread the word about good ones and often mention new ones that readers might not yet know about, and to keep pace with what's coming in I'm putting a fresh list of books over there on the right. For want of a more original title just now I'm calling it "New arrivals", but it will act a bit like the shop window in which the new stock is displayed; what's there will change every so often and will usually end up with a proper post of its own before too long as I work my way down through the TBR pile.
Now back to day-dreaming about that shop I've always wanted ......

I'm currently enjoying an old favorite: Mary Stewart in her mystery/thriller, not her Arthurian, mode. Wildfire at Midnight is eerie and atmospheric and a great deal of fun to read. As girls, my sister and I read all of hers in our small town library repeatedly, and then I found this edition--a 50 cent "Crest Book" published in 1963--at my current library's book sale. It's a "thumping good read" and I recommend her to anyone who hasn't dipped in yet!

Ah, the selecting of the stock is the fun bit. And you don't have to dust it, fret about sun damage or operate the fiendish till. Bliss.
