Not much, I have to confess! I've been away on holiday (you can see the view from my bedroom window here) and although I had three books with me all I did was finish the one I was already half way through and start the next (which is very promising so far).
I am, I find, a hopeless holiday reader. I read a few pages on the plane, but was more interested in looking out at the landscape we were passing over. I read a bit when we weren't 'doing something' (it was quite an active holiday), but spent more time looking out at the landscape that surrounded us. I was too sleepy from all the fresh air and exercise, taking advantage of that landscape, to read much at night, and breakfast (with landscape backdrop) was so good that I was not inclined to linger in bed in the morning, so reading barely featured. And yet other people get through several volumes when they are away - how do they do it?
Anyway, I now have lots to read, having come home to find a pile of books waiting for me - and more on them soon - but nothing that I've actually read to talk about. So it's over to you? Do you read much on holiday? And have you read anything good lately, at home or away?
I'm exactly the same, I head off with really good intentions and a nice pile of books and manage to get completely sidetracked. I'm never sure how it happens.... But this October will be different I'm sure (fingers crossed)

I do read a lot on holiday, usually an average of a book a day, but I am not a spouse or parent! I can afford to be utterly selfish on holiday...

I read three books this holiday, in Switzerland. There was plenty of time in the evening after a days sight-seeing.Many years ago I listened to Mary Webb's ''Precious Bane'' on the radio and have meant to read it for ages. Now I have - and enjoyed it once I got used to the Shropshire dialect.
The it was Alan Bennett's ''An Uncommon Reader'' which amused me greatly. Lastly, another book I've been meaning to read for so long - ''The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists'' - Robert Tressell. This was lengthy and serious for the most part and, although it hasn't changed my life as many people seem to have experienced, partly, I suppose, because the ideas expressed are akin to my own, but, it certainly made me think and each day something occurs which makes me hark back to the book.
