I, too, have read in a tree. There was an elm tree in our yard at home with spreading limbs that began just a couple of feet from the ground, so it was very easy to climb. One limb made for a very good seat and another was an excellent book rest. The sitting limb, by the way, was also great for hanging upside down from. This tree also had not one but two swings, so I spent a lot of time in it.

Yes to extreme, how about the bottom of the OPAL (at LEP) experiment pit at CERN? Not usually much time for reading as I would have been on shift, but sometimes the electron and positron beams would be off and no alarms so I'd get a few pages read.

Like Mr C and Julie I've read a book in a tree but found it fairly uncomfortable so I only tried it once.

Not what you were asking, I know, but one thinks irristibly of Calvino's Baron in the Trees (make a good read for CBG).

Dark Puss

Great suggestion for CBG Lindsay! Actually anything by Calvino would be great, but this is one I haven't read so I'd prefer it :-)

I'll add Il Barone to my list - thankyou - but on the subject of the post, I thought you might be going to mention reading TS Eliot on Golden Cap ...

I hardly ever read T S Eliot anywhere, it's mostly in my head! But I have often read in the back of a variety of military aircraft in less than routine circumstances, if that counts?

Dark Puss

Il barone rampante? Does that mean we will be reading it in Italian? I'm going to find that impossible I fear.
