- The Kashmir Shawl by Rosie Thomas.
- "A lifetime of secrets spun into the finest of yarns ..."
- When Mair Ellis clears out her father's house after his death she finds an exquisite, antique shawl, painstakingly hand-embroidered and worth a fortune. Wrapped within it is a lock of a child's hair ... Tracing her grandparents' roots back to India and Kashmir, she is inspired to unlock the secrets of the past - a journey that throws her into the path of unrest, drama and tragedy that will change her own life forever.
This sounds like a book in which to lose yourself: from rural Wales to Kashmir and the Himalayas, a three-generational family story, dangerous liaisons, love and friendship ... and there's a description of the shawl itself here.
I have started this, but put it down to read Ophelia in Pieces ... this is getting seriously weird, with all the books in all the world, we're reading the same books at the same time.
