A fairer House than Prose -
More numerous of Windows -
Superior - for Doors -
Of Chambers as the Cedars -
Imregnable of Eye -
And for an Everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky -
Of Visitors - the fairest -
For Occupation - This -
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise.
Poem by Emily Dickinson (especially for Nancy).
Painting, Bright Autumn Sun, 1950s, Winifred Nicholson.
Thanks for posting one of my favourite poems ! And a beautiful picture too.

Thanks for the link to this post! I learn so much from your blog!
Last year your post about Winfred Nicholson (and her painting of the blue gate) led me to purchase a book about her and her painting. Now this painting feels just perfect for the coming Autumn, truly full of possibilities. (Was 100 degrees here a week ago--low of 42 degrees this morning, I love autumn!)

Thank you! I was just admiring the painting before scrolling down to find Emily - thank you, again.
Speaking of temps. - here in W.Mass. it's 57 degrees (mid-afternoon) on our stoop - misty/drippy, after the full day of rain yesterday. We helped move our grandson into his dorm yesterday - rain varied from just rain to really pouring all day. They were organized for this, beginning with timed arrivals - and covered canopies out to the street and many, many rolling bins.

Glad you like them both, Adele (I love that first line).
