Among the current Kindle bargains is Marika Cobbold's Drowning Rose, which I reviewed here and which was one of my top novels of 2011.
Another of my Cornflower Blues of that year was Louise Levene's Ghastly Business (which is great fun), so I'm pleased to see that Louise has a new book coming out in February; The Following Girls is set in the 1970s.
One of the 2012 Cornflower Blues was Harriet Lane's Alys, Always which I thought was a brilliant debut, so we have something more to look forward to next year when Harriet's second novel, Her, is released.
Going back to my first Cornflower Blues list (2006), I included Gwen Raverat's memoir Period Piece and described it as "a joyous piece of writing". It's about to be re-issued by Slightly Foxed, and you can read all about it - and place your order for the new edition - here. The video shows how these handsome books are made:
England's Kindle bargains seem much better than the US's.

Period Piece is one of my all time favourite books, I don't know anyone, male or female who hasn't loved it.
I adored Aly Always too (which I think I read on your recommendation)so the next book is very good news.

Really? That's interesting.

Yes, Period Piece is wonderful!
So glad you liked Alys, Always, and Harriet's new book should certainly be one to look out for.

A new book by Louise Levene is definitely an enjoyable prospect. I loved both Ghastly Business and A Vision of Loveliness and was just wondering if she was working on another.

Oh Cornflower. Thanks for the Slightly Foxed clip. Takes me back to the days I worked for a printer. I spent many hours watching the presses go round and round. The rhythmic sounds and the care with which the work was done always held a fascination for me. Wonderful!
And LauraC is right; Amazon UK does have better 'deals' than here in the U.S.
