... bluff, solitary Inspector James McLevy is investigating a murder.
"When he encounters Robert Louis Stevenson, author of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, the two recognise each other as fellow travellers, observers of the dark side of human nature and both hopeless insomniacs.
Glimpses of the murderer indicate a slender, androgynous figure with a silver cane, which is used to lethal effect. A dancing killer not unlike Mr. Edward Hyde."
That's David Ashton's highly engrossing novel Nor Will He Sleep, and it's on sale today (Friday) very cheaply in the Kindle edition. I read it recently (I quoted a line or two here) and loved it - it's witty and vivid and rich, and I'm keen to read more of the series.

As I write, Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch is on offer at the bargain price of £1.99, and another big book, Elizabeth Gilbert's The Signature of All Things
(which I wrote about here) is just £1.59.
