... I was in the warmest place.
This is the cosiest reading spot in the house, and I have just the right books for it in this wild weather: I finished Tom's Midnight Garden yesterday afternoon (do read it, if you haven't already done so), and began D.E. Stevenson's The Two Mrs. Abbotts - charming!
I hope everyone else is warm and dry, and has some suitably satisfying reading.
It is a gorgeous day here! I am about to re-read (again) Imaging gaseous detectors and their applications as my review is over a week late and I need to get it in ASAP! Just finished last night Stephen Kelman's "Pigeon English" which although satisfying (and grim but funny too in places) was a little too portentous to really work as well as it might. I have not tracked down a copy of the CBG book yet either I am afraid.

No rest for the wicked, eh?
Re. Tom's Midnight Garden, I did my usual check of the Camden Libraries Catalogue before finally choosing it, and they appeared to have several copies. But if, for any reason, they are not to be had, why not buy one (they are easy to come by) and then give it away to a good home when you have read it!

The bit in Tom's Midnight Garden where he can't sleep because he has eaten to much rich food- I know exactly how he feels.

I did go to some exhibitions this morning! I will try my local library tomorrow. Indeed no rest; I am reviewing some level 3 examination questions for a Scottish University at the moment ...

I've just eaten the last piece of Christmas cake (plus cheese), so I'm with you there.

At least 'Tom' is a short book so it shouldn't take up much of your time once you have it - and it might prove a welcome respite from the work (it has an interesting 'physics-y' element).

What a fabulous chair! My daughter has just delivered her copy of Tom's midnight garden so I can join in. All the very best to you and your family for 2014

Thank you, Kim!
The chair is old (and puppy-chewed) but very, very comfortable. It's an Orkney chair with a rush seat and that distinctive curved back which hugs the occupant and keeps out draughts.

You describe our night perfectly.
Edward and I snuggled in with Old Filth by Jane Gardam. Wonderful book.

Jane Gardam is wonderful!
Do read the rest of the trilogy, Pamela, and if you ever get the chance to hear JG speak, take it!

I now have a copy of Tom's Midnight Garden. I have submitted my book review and I have also reviewed all those examination papers too!
