The winner of The Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, announced this evening at The Borders Book Festival, is Robert Harris for An Officer and a Spy, his retelling of the Dreyfus Affair, which has beaten very strong competition.
I haven't read the book, but Barbara has and says she doesn't know when she's enjoyed a historical novel more!
Well deserved - it's a very good read. Harris can make you interested in a subject you think might not engage you.

I bought it in hardback for junior daughter as she had touched on the Dreyfus case in one of the modules for her degree (French and Italian at Birmingham Uni) and was fascinated by it.
As she is now working in Italy for the summer and it is sitting in her bookcase, I am tempted to borrow it back!
