Posts have been few and far between lately, and that's set to continue as other commitments take priority, but I must just mention a few things as I pop in briefly:
The respected bookseller Topping & Company is about to open a branch in St. Andrews. I passed the shop in Greyfriars Garden this morning and found it tantalisingly full of stock but its doors firmly closed until next Monday (the 17th.). I shall look forward to visiting Toppings on my next visit.
A couple of articles caught my eye over the last few days: A.S. Byatt on Margery Allingham - "she turned puzzles into true drama, but with a conscious artificer's grace" - and an interview with Richard Adams, still going strong at 94.
As to current reading, I am greatly enjoying Margaret Forster's memoir My Life in Houses - and related to that, do see Liz Wood's comment on this post in which she offers a profound and most fascinating insight; much food for thought there.
Thanks for the update! I've been wondering, is the Cornflower Book Group no longer happening? I found you just too late for the last one (In This House of Brede) and was disappointed when there wasn't another one.

We've had a longish break, simply due to my having had very little time for reading lately, and as things are still very busy here, I'm not sure when we'll be able to resume. Sorry, Lory!

Thanks for letting us know about Topping and Company. I've just had a look at their web site - it all looks very enticing. I visit St. Andrews and will go and have a look ( and, no doubt, make a purchase) the next time I'm there.

St. Andrews is a place of many attractions and I'm sure this will be one of them!

That's all right -- I was just curious. Enjoy whatever reading you are able to fit in!

I was in St. Andrews yesterday and thought I'd just pop in and have a quick look around Topping and Company. The pop in turned into an hour. What a marvellous "proper" bookshop. It looks and feels just right, can't recommend highly enough, just books, books and more books - no extra bits and pieces. Helpful and welcoming staff - I was offered complimentary tea or coffee whilst browsing.
As you can tell I was impressed - you'll enjoy your visits I'm sure. St. Andrews is lucky to have it and I hope it's well supported.

I was there today, Claire, and I was SO impressed! I'll write a bit more about it very soon.

It's a delight, I'm encouraging friends and relatives to visit.
