If you fancy giving Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin novels a try, the first three in the series are among today's Kindle deals. I've read Master and Commander (which is book 1) and I enjoyed it thoroughly, while Mr. C. has read the lot and loved them all. I refer to them in this post and in a rather different context in this one - they might sway you if you're swithering.
And to get your toes tapping, here's the final scene from the film:
I highly recommend the novels. I, too, have gone through all of them, rereading some more than once or twice. And, as I drive 100 miles RT in my work commute, I have gotten them as audio books from my library. The most gifted narrator for the series ever was Patrick Tull on Recorded Books, though sadly he died in 2006. Might still find his voice on older recordings. He vividly brought ever character and scene of those novels to life and demonstrated what an amazing difference a good narrator makes in audio recording.

You'll be a true expert on the books, Mary!
You are so right about narrators.

I can't tell you what pleasure your clip from 'Master and Commander' gave me even though I own the DVD. I'm a huge fan, I've read the whole series many times ... and. no Kaggsy, they're not too manly believe me. Sorry, I'm referring to someone else's blog here, is that bad form? And I couldn't agree more about Patrick Tull for me he is the voice of the series none of the others begin to compare and some of them are quite awful -- pronouncing boatswain and forecastle as they're written for goodness sake!

Not bad form at all, Jane!
Where was the producer when the mispronunciation was going on?!!
