"If choice must be between two seasons, each so full of charm, it is at least no bad philosophy to prefer the present good, even whilst looking gratefully back, and hopefully forward, to the past and the future."
From Our Village by Mary Russell Mitford; the cover from my 1909 edition (J.M. Dent, English Idylls series) is shown here.
Wishing you a very happy new year!

Always a reflective time of year, a reckoning of sorts together with anticipation of all the joys which hopefully are yet to come.

What a beautiful book cover! I read Mitford's My Garden several years ago and liked it.
I hope you have a very Happy New Year!

It has been a year of change for me too. I wish you a very Happy New Year from Northern Alberta, Canada. It is a bright and sunny day here and we should hit a high of -7C later today. It's a nice way to start the new year, not too cold and it's always a joy to see children outside on the toboggan hills. I hope that goods things you wish for yourself and family happen in 2016. Thank you for all your efforts in maintaining your blog-I appreciate it.
