From 10th. May to 3rd. June, The Illustration Cupboard in London is showing an exhibition of Jill Barklem's original artwork for the much-loved Brambly Hedge books. You can find the illustrations here, and note, the sketches may be purchased - prices are to be released soon.
Also on show at the gallery will be this Storyteller Children's Chair made by RhubarbLondon:
Two-thirds the size of an adult's wing chair, its front legs have been carved from oak to recreate the Toadflax family's home, and there are speakers in the backrest powered by a self-contained battery system which 'broadcast' the Brambly Hedge stories to the occupier of the chair. Chequebooks at the ready, it costs £3,500.

This series has totally passed me by. I like the chairs though, there are even wheelchairs which impressed me.

I do enjoy hearing about new-to-me places. Just looked at the website of The Illustration Cupboard, which sounds somewhere worth exploring on my next trip to London. Happy memories of reading Brambly Hedge to my charges years ago when a nanny.

Sadly I won't be able to get to London to see this exhibition but thank you for reminding me of the Brambly Hedge illustrations. I absolutely loved them as a child and still have a couple of china ornaments given to me by my mother. Happy days!

My daughters both loved this series when they were little and I have just bought the boxed set for my 3-year-old granddaughter as I am sure she will love it when she is a little older.
The illustrations are enchantingly complex and that chair is intriguing - though a little rich for my bank account!

I love the Jill Barklem illustrations! I have three small grandnieces who will love the Brambly Hedge books. In books for children, I only buy books with lovely illustrations.
