Over on Instagram, where the book chat is always lively, I posted a picture of the JL Carr books I wrote about here the other day. I mentioned - in answer to a comment - that I'd found the biography in John Sandoe Books, and very sweetly someone from John Sandoe joined in and recommended more by Byron Rogers (Carr's biographer), specifically his biography of R.S. Thomas, his memoir "Me", and a collection of essays titled "The Bank Manager and the Holy Grail".
"Byron Rogers is a wonderful writer," JS said, "most is sadly out of print but if you should ever come across anything it's worth pouncing on."
On the basis of his Carr biography I would most definitely do so.
Before we leave John Sandoe, here's an article about them from Slightly Foxed.
