That sounds like an excellent event. I am reading Richard Holloway on faith and doubt and am taken with the idea of having faith in writing or other creative activity...thoughtful as always Karen. Thank you.

Fran

For whatever reason I have yet to read James Runcie despite having had The Shadow of Death on my shelves for several years. After reading your post and links I shall remedy the situation in the very near future. Thank you!

Thank you for this. I've enjoyed all the Grantchester novels so I have to read the prequel. The 'lose the religion' instruction is interesting as it's one of the things I like about the books and miss in the TV series, enjoyable though that is.

The St Matthew Passion would convert anyone, I think!

Naomi

Can you set aside the tv characters when you read the mysteries?

Cornflower

You're welcome, Freda.
It is an interesting idea.

Cornflower

I still have to read the last two in the series but have very much enjoyed all the others.

Cornflower

I think Pip Torrens's comment about the religion reflected the fact that James Runcie was struggling to such a degree with the balance of that book. Like you I very much enjoy that aspect of the series as a whole, but it seems as though in trying to show/explain Sidney's dawning faith, what made him become a priest, JR was getting truly bogged down.

Cornflower

I haven't seen the tv series at all, Naomi, so I still have that 'pure' view of the characters.
