I'm sorry Diane Setterfield's Once Upon a River and Niall Williams' This Is Happiness haven't made the shortlist, but very glad to see Tim Pears' The Redeemed there; James Meek's To Calais in Ordinary Time is a work of virtuosity but not the easiest read in these difficult days.

I'm sorry Once Upon A River didn't make the list as well. They seem to have chosen all the ones I haven't read, LOL.

I'd certainly recommend the Tim Pears (trilogy), Cathy, but yes, it's a pity about lovely Once Upon a River.
