I'm reading Ben Macintyre's Operation Mincemeat with great interest and enjoyment (I read Duff Cooper's Operation Heartbreak a while ago and loved his fictional version of this audacious wartime story). I'm now keen to see the film.
The book I've just finished, Second Act by Henry Oliver mentions in passing Vita Sackville-West's lovely novel All Passion Spent - a treat in store for anyone who hasn't read it.
I popped into a local bookshop today and came away with Cutting for Stone, Abraham Verghese's first novel. His second, The Covenant of Water, was for me an outstanding book last year, so I'm keen to read his earlier hit.
Operation Mincemeat : loved the book but the film was a disappointment.

I watched Verghese talk to Oprah about Covenant of Water (6 1hr episodes on YouTube, well worth the time.) He told her that when Cutting for Stone came out, he prayed that she would choose it for her book club, but she didn't. I haven't read Cutting for Stone, either, but will be putting it on my TBR list - which just continues to grow & grow. I enjoy hearing your book recommendations.

Lindy: I haven't watched the film yet - sorry to hear it's not up to the standard of the book.
Cathy: I have seen some of the Oprah interviews with AV and did catch that bit about Cutting for Stone!
Glad you find the recommendations useful.

I enjoyed Operation Mincemeat, the film, enormously. I hadn’t read the book which could have helped. Some very funny performances from Matthew McFadyen and Colin Firth and a good turn by Johnnie Flynn as Ian Fleming.
